The Van Buren Township Recreation Department desk attendant position is a part-time position with can be scheduled Sunday-Saturday and may include evening, weekend and holiday hours with a maximum of 29 hours weekly (not to exceed 130 hours monthly).
Desk Attendants will report to work at the Van Buren Community Center and will work mostly indoors with occasional shifts assisting at events and classes outdoors on site or in our parks.
This position is a part-time, year-round position.
Working at the Van Buren Community Center (VBC) means you will be multitasking by staffing the front desk, providing supervision for our Child Watch area, and performing room inspections.
Perform front-line responsibilities at the Van Buren Community Center.
Maintains a welcoming environment by acknowledging patrons.
Responsible for registering patrons for classes, events, membership, and rentals.
In addition, assisting guest or training them on proper use of fitness equipment.
Responsible for communicating community center policies and procedures, responding to inquiries.
Perform hourly room checks, guided tours, room inspections and room set up.
Assist with department events and classes.
Responsible for processing payments, cash register operation, and cash handling.
Responsible for opening and closing of the facility building activity supervision and other duties as assigned.
Perform Child Watch attendant duties as scheduled for the Community Center.
REQUIREMENTS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position.
Must have organizational, and interpersonal skills and a strong attention to detail.
Must have some knowledge with willingness to learn various software (RecDesk.
) Efficient in Microsoft Office.
Skill in communicating verbally and in writing and interacting with customers in a professional and ethical manner.
Must maintain compliance with Township Employee Manual, Township Ethics Policy, Township Policies Manual and all other policies as adopted.
Must be reliable, demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and work cooperatively as part of a team.
Ability to use various job-related modern electronic office equipment.
Ability to perform job duties and complete assignments with minimal need for direct supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, supervisors and the general public.
Must have a flexible schedule to allow for shifts during the day, evening and holidays.

and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain one.

Environment:
Work is performed primarily in the Community Center and outdoor environment with some standard office environment work which includes some travel to different sites; when visiting parks, the incumbent may be required to walk on uneven and slippery surfaces, be exposed to all weather conditions, dust and pollen, and mechanical hazards such as construction equipment; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and may be required to travel outside Township boundaries to attend meetings.
Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions and and mobility to work in an outdoor and office setting; to lift, 50 to 100lbs, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement, kneeling, stretching and fine coordination including ascending and descending a ladder; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
